I love the idea where Jim calls Spock ‘sweetheart’ and Spock gets flustered but Spock calls Jim ’t’hy’la’ in return like. Spock, you’re literally calling him your soulmate, that’s an intense level of gay and yet you get all shy when you’re called sweetheart? Buddy???
That one time when Spock finally fell for one of Kirk’s conversational traps and accidentally said something that was both a human cliche and an expression of emotion, and even though Kirk totally noticed, he pretended not to because Winona Kirk raised a flirt, not a bully.
The Empath is one of my favorite TOS episodes. After Kirk volunteers (in the scene above) to be tortured in the place of Spock and Bones, the Vians tell him, “We’ve already observed the intensity of your passions, engaged your capacity to love others.” Later in the episode, Spock volunteers to be tortured in place of Bones, and Bones knocks him out with a hypo to prevent it. The crux of the episode hinges on the Triumvirate’s ability to sacrifice for one another, to love each other more than they fear pain and suffering. It’s a goddamn beautiful episode.
my new favorite spirk headcanon is that spock starts thinking about jim as “ashayam”/”t’hy’la”/(insert vulcan endearment here) in his head before they’ve got together bc he’s actually a sap
but one time spock gets annoyed at him and grits out “Ashayam, refusing to sign the peace treaty will only beleaguer the natives unnecessarily. Please consider another course of action.” and it’s an accident and spock fucked up, he fucked up really bad but he just rolls with it and doesn’t say anything because idk maybe jim didn’t notice but then jim is like what did you just call me omg
