so, me and my friend were wondering about this scene in girl meets creativity where maya is telling riley about her art. and she says: 

“I watch the light move during the day, and you know what happens at 5:30? 

YOU TURN GOLD”

something in the way she says it makes me think that she is referring to riley as the sun , and I always thought that scene was so cute because of it.beautiful

but apparently my friend thinks maya meant that the sunset makes everything gold, including Riley, and she didn’t even think of the riley is the sun idea that was so clear to me.

and so, we wanted to see what our rilaya fandom thinks. did anybody else see that sun image in his head?

I always thought the writers meant it as Riley is the brightest, shiny thing that can be seen. The sun illuminates her alone. Because the writers could have had Maya say ‘at 5:30 everything turns gold’ but they didn’t just ‘you’

It’s gay. It’s really hella gay. Maya couldn’t restrain herself from commenting about how pretty and golden Riley looks when the sunlight catches her before sunset. She might have though she was sneakily fitting it in around a load of other comments, but it is so very telling that she says ‘you turn gold’. Maya has been thinking about the light on Riley’s face and hair outside of just the time that it happens. This is a thing Maya as a girl has seen and adored and Maya as an artist has wanted to express and replicate.

In short, it’s a beautifully gay thing that a girl in love would say.
